PostSubject: Pokémon: Endless Shadows   Sat Nov 16, 2013 3:17 am

3 years ago, and event took place that shattered Hoenn, and quite possibly, the rest of the world. Few know exactly what took place, save for the appearance of strange towers in the months leading up to the event. Since then, nothing has been the same. First the Pokéballs stopped working, then the Pokémn storage system... hundreds of Pokémon, now freed began causing havoc... soon there was rioting in the street. Not long after, people started dying in the street, apparently caused by a strange disease, though no one's sure. The few people with any sense headed away from the population centers, hiding out in rural areas, caves, other stuff.

The world has calmed down since then, but things aren't looking good. Every day is a struggle for survival, with things like food and fresh water constantly in demand. The few that survive has splintered into two basic groups. Those that wander the wasteland than Hoenn has become, just trying to get by, and then there's the bandits, who prey on these survivors and you know what, you've played a Fallout game I'm sure, I don't need to explain to you what bandits do.

Ahem, anyway, some survivors try to band together and create permanent settlements, but it rarely works out, either shortage of food, or bandit attacks put a stop to that. The few rumors that drift back from people who have come from Johto or Kanto suggest that the situation's not much better there. But there are whispers that, far to the north, there is a safe haven.

Oh, and the sky is almost always overcast, and strange shadows move about in the clouds. No one's quite sure what's up with that. But it makes flying incredibly unsafe. Which is to say, people who try often end up dead. That kind of unsafe.

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] (I shouldn't still need to explain this to you.)
[b]Appearance:[/b] (What you look like, I guess.)
[b]Age:[/b] (Hint, you're not 5. Because the minimum age is, I dunno, 16.)
[b]Home Region:[/b] (Where you were born, originally. However, everyone was living in Hoenn when the... thing happened.)
[b]Partner Pokémon:[/b] (Your best friend, right after your shotgun.)
[b]Notable items/equipment:[/b] (Bikes, potions... guns. You're Pokémon is your first weapon, but if in doubt, a 12 gauge is always a good backup.)
[b]Bio:[/b] (Tell me a bit about your character's backstory. A bit, Orandulum.
[b]Personality:[/b] (Is your character a dick? Or not? Tell us here.)
[b]Misc:[/b] (Anything else you'd like to add?)
Your character is, naturally, one of the survivors that wander the wasteland. You probably don't know any of the other chars, but I might grant special permission to have y'all start in a group 2 or something. Your char is someone who survived the... thing 3 years, ago, well... I leave the rest up to you.

Rules:
My basic RP rules apply.
Your partner's about as important as your char. Make it serious, and make it a 'Mon that can actually travel around with you. So, say, Luvdisc or Wailord may be impractical.
No godmodding, whatever.
Make your posts substantial. This is a serious, story based RP. If you're contributing, you'll need to /actually/ contribute.

I'll be a lot more strict on chars this RP than previous ones, so, you know, try and be serious.

Huh. You guys. Serious.

EDIT: Player list
Myself: Ezra Black
Orandulum: Allesandor Carrow
Tunnel Snakes Rule: Terrence Dufone
1337ness: Cyan
Ravenight: Roseanne
Vorsprung: Michael Huntington
Melexiious: Jason Donovan

Name: Allesandor Carrow
Appearance:
Height: 6"2
Hair: Brown, short and unkept
Face: Green eyes, medium sized nose, mouth often kept in hard line.
Body: Wears a black shirt under a khaki ultilty vest along with black pants under a standard issue travellers cloak. There is also a Holster on his right hip which is covered by the cloak most of the time.
Age: 26
Home Region: Johto
Partner Pokémon: Metagross
Notable items/equipment: Carries a Double Action CZ-75 Stainless pistol which is kept cocked and locked at all times. The pockets of his vest carry various items such as: A map of Hoenn, A pokeball, various drugs kept in vials, an injection gun and 3 clips of 9mm ammunition.
Bio: Allesandor Carrow was 23 when it happened. For the last year of his Pokemon research degree he found himself interned at the Olivine town research centre. Deciding that he should experience what it is like to be the subject of research He signed himself up for study on the prolonged effect of psychic pokemon on the human brain.
For this experiment he was placed in metal enclosure with four Beldum that he was to simply interact with as they went about their life. It started out as a surprisingly enjoyable experience, no furious studying or dead lines to meet, just playing with the Beldum and watching them when he tired out. Allesandor's first clue that something had gone wrong was when he woke up and didn't smell the usual aroma of honey porridge wafting from the table beneath the food flap. After a whole day of no food Allesandor began to get truly worried as he called out to the scientists to open the doors only to get silence as the response. On the second day the silence and lack of food continued. On the third day Allesandor was out of water as the tank had not been refilled and he knew death by dehydration would occur soon. In the face of his impending doom Hysteria overwhelmed him as he started to throw himself against the steel walls, hoping something; anything would occur. The Beldum were confused by their friend's actions, but could feel his panic through a simple bond that had formed over time. They joined him in his efforts to break down the the wall though it seemed they weren't stong enough. Fueled by Allesandor's hysteria the four Beldum merged into 2 Metang hoping that the increased strength would let them break the wall. Unfortunately even their new power still wouldn't cut it. Taking the final route, both Metang fused into a Metagross. Metagross' monsterous strength allowed it to smash through the wall with a loud screech of tearing metal. Finally free from the encloser Allesandor searched the facility finding it empty excpet for the sick room which had corpses in every bed and one in the Head doctor's office chair. He decided to scavange as much as he could from the facility and then headed out to try and discover what had happened, with Metagross by his side.
Personality:The apocalypse has unfortunately not done much for Allesandor's people skills and paranoia, what with the constant danger from bandits and the wild mons. If you can go a week without trying to stab him in the back he'll warm up to you a lot, not that this occurs very often.
Misc: For the first 2 years Allesandor and Metagross survived because they were lucky. Now they've got experience working as a duo to take out enemies making them a a force to be reckoned with.  They specialise in lightning fast combat whether reacting to or initiating the fights. They will usually avoid or run away from long drawn out combat.

Allesander is accepted. So yeah, good work, an actual sign-up...

Now if only I could get a couple more. Eh. Well, I can get one more at least. Mine!

Name: Ezra Black

Appearance: Is about slightly above average height for his age. Fairly well muscled, but you couldn't tell it at a glance. Grey/blue eyes, dark hair, etc. Wears a tattered blue jacket that once belonged to a friend of his. Either wears a black shirt underneath, or no shirt at all, depending on the weather. Also pants. He certainly wears pants. And a pair of heavy boots.

Age: 17

Home Region: Sinnoh

Partner Pokémon: Lucario (bet 'cha didn't see that coming.)

Notable items/equipment: Keeps most of his supplies and travelling gear in a black satchel bag. Keeps .44 revolver holstered at his hip. It's mostly for show, but he does know how to handle it, if things come to that. Also has a bracelet with a strange stone embedded into it.

Bio: As a young child, Ezra's spent all of his time with his best friend. The two of them did everything together whilst growing up with one another in Sinnoh. When they turned 10, his friend's uncle gave them each a Pokémon. Ezra received an Absol, and his best friend received a Riolu. Things were great, even after his friend had to move to Hoenn for his father's work, the two stayed in touch. Roughly three years ago, Ezra went to visit his friend. The two were hanging out in his father's house with their Pokémon when a massive earthquake tore through the area. Panicing, Ezra ran outside. It was only when the shaking stopped that Ezra noticed his friend was not by his side. Nor were his friend's parents. Or his Absol. He turned to see rubble when his friend's house once stood, with his friend's Riolu trying to dig him out. Working together, all the two were able to salvage was the jacket he always used to wear, along with a bracelet his friend's uncle had given to him... Since then the two have been surviving, mostly by hiding out in in the forests around Fortree City, and raiding nearby towns for food when necessary.

Personality: Having your best friend /and/ your Pokémon companion die at the same time doesn't do wonders for one's mental state. Ezra tries to avoid human contact if at all possible, a feat made easier by Lucario's ability to sense auras.

Misc: Ezra has spent a lot of time sparing with his Riolu/Lucario since the... thing happened. Both of them felt to week to save their friends, and as such have done their best to make sure it doesn't happen again. Because of this, Ezra is surprisingly strong, and not half bad at hand to hand combat.

Aaaand there we go. Note how the bio isn't a dumb amount of long.

Name: Terrence Dufone

Age: 32

Appearance: Medium height, about 5"8 but has a temper befitting that of a 5"0'er. Black, unkempt and long hair, green eyes. Wears a bowler hat and reading glasses with missmatched colors on either side, a worn blazer with a guitar fretboard tie and a black shit with two buttons just below the collar. Dark navy-blue, almost black jeans that can be passed off as decent semi-formalwear and slightly discolored white boots, obviously in need of a good polish.

Home Region: Orre (It counts)

Partner Pokémon: Misdreavus

Notable Items: Keeps an acoustic 12-string guitar on his back, occasionally plays and/or tunes it. A Desert Eagle pistol in a holster with spare ammunition in his inside pockets. Keeps supplies and camping gear in a satchel along with a deck of cards for magic tricks and occasional gambling games. Also has a sapphire ring that was left with him at birth, Terrence doesn't know who's it was, and doesn't want to find out.

Bio: Terrence spent the first half of his life in The Under and Pyrite Town, learning how to live by stealing, charming or hustling people out of their hard earned cash. Terrence never really had friends, just a failed shadow Misdreavus  that took a shine to him after seeing him busk in the streets of Pyrite town. After coming roughly of age, Terrence travelled all around the world winning card games and performing country-jazz (It's actually a genre, don't ask why) music in the big casinos. Eventually Terrence's luck ran out and he was kicked out of the Mauville casino. Terrence and his Misdreavus wandered around for a few days and then the event happened. Since then he has been camping out near the old Mauville Generator, fishing and foraging to keep himself alive.

Personality: As your typical hustler, Terrence views others as potential victims for his shenanigans, however, if convinced, he can use his skills for a common cause or greater good.

Misc: As part of his hustlings, Terrence became very good at throwing cards. However, due to beings in another world somehow refusing him to let him do it, he will usually use them to impress others.

Orre certainly does count.

I'm not sure how a feel about razor-edged throwing cards, though. I could see it working, I guess...

Name: Cyan

Appearance: Ironically dyed-blue hair, a "God is Dead" shirt, and black skinny jeans inscribed with white-out pentagrams.

Age: 16

Home Region: Hoenn

Partner Pokémon: Smeargle

Notable items/equipment: A knife, a bike, and a highly temperamental pistol purchased from an amateur basement manufacturer.

Bio: Cyan is a mostly typical teenager with hipster tendencies; he "ironically" read the Twilight saga in school, and carved out-of-context four-word quotes from the saga into all the school desks. He was in detention for one such vandalism spell when the storage system finally completely failed, and got to safety through blind luck ("a reminder that we're not in control of our own destiny"). His Smeargle was a childhood 'mon which he'd been training for the competitive scene; as such, its movepool was primarily offensive, which allowed him to survive the first few days of chaos and get out of the city. Since then, it's learnt a few utility moves to produce water and the like, though its main purpose is still bodyguard. Smeargle is also an artist in his spare time, a pursuit which Cyan both approves of and is tremendously amused by.

Personality: Is prone to pseudo-Nietzschiest ramblings despite not actually having read any of his works. Sees the apocalyptic events as "Fate's way of reminding us that we are alone in the universe"; those who call him out on the flaws in his view are met with the reply "You're too caught up in logic; you need to try and see this from a post-modern perspective".

Misc: Cyan and his Smeargle primarily aim to survive; they honestly don't give a shit about the possibility of a place untouched by the disaster, and they fight only when provoked. Cyan is relatively useless in combat, but has a degree of resilience about him; he frequently plays distraction by getting punched/shot at while Smeargle buffs up. Cyan's parents weren't in the city when the disaster struck, and while he wants to know they're okay and let them know that he's okay, he's not particularly interested in re-uniting with them in any permanent way; it would be time to move out were there a home to move out of.

You're allowed to start with a Mega Stone, or a Mega Ring. But not boooooth~

However, the group might find one at a later date.

Name: Roseanne
Appearance: She has golden-brown hair that is usually tied back in a ponytail, but when it isn't it is almost down to her waist. Her eyes are a stunning emerald green. She usually wears three quarter length jeans and a black shirt with an. Electric bolt on it
Age: 18
Home Region: johto
Partner Pokémon: Jolteon
Notable items/equipment: P99 pistol. Two daggers, a map. Her pokegear and a pokeball that once belonged to Jolteon
Bio: she was in her science lab testing out different powders and berries to see what their effects would be. Her beloved eevee was usually the test subject but the pokemon didn't really seem to care about it to much. When an earthquake ripped through the city she was still at her lab, all her powders and potions mixed together and created an explosion and threw her backwards. She then got trapped in shrapnel and a stone was thrown at her at a great speed sure to knock her out or kill her. She braced for the impact but it never reached her head, a brown and white blue of fur stopped it and caught the stone in its jaw instantly making the eevee glow. Soon her beloved eevee was now a Jolteon, the pokemon had saved her and once april recovered from the shock she got out from the shrapnel and they walked the city looking for survivors
Personality: she is a nice, kind person that is usually very helpful but now she is very on edge and jumpy
Misc: her and Jolteon searched the town for survivors and food. They have worked as a great team and she learnt most of Jolteons new abilities

All characters I've previously accepted are accepted, sure. Except Tunnel Snakes Rule. I'm /really/ not sure about the whole 'razor-tipped playing cards' thing. I'm reasonably sure that's stretching credibility.

I honestly expected you to have a problem with him having a Lapras. It has to stay in the water except for beaches and ice/snow. Or so I'd imagine, what with it having the same method of movement as a turtle without having an undershell to protect from rough terrain

That's, no, yeah, that's an excellent point. Travelling across Hoenn might get difficult with a 'mon that can barely move.

Rightio, TSR, your char is officially accepted.

That's 5 people in, now. I just need one more before I'll start actually considering getting the IC up. If you're gonna make a character, but need some more time to get your char sheet together, just post a message here and I'll post-pone this 'till you've done, but don't take too long. After these sign-ups have been open for 2 weeks, that's the hard deadline.

Don't despair, however, as you can still join after the game's started, it just might take a while to get you into the action.

Basically, what I'm saying is, to those of you who haven't, hurry up and get your char sheets in.

PostSubject: Re: Pokémon: Endless Shadows   Sun Nov 24, 2013 4:39 pm

Name: Michael Huntington

Appearance: Pasty-white with brown hair, a reasonably attractive man. Wears stained business attire – a bloodied silk shirt, a black tie, and tailor-made pants. Sports a stylish moustache-and-soul-patch combo, but hasn’t shaved properly in a while. Wears thick Ray-Ban glasses. Has one Giorgio Armani loafer on one foot, and a Rescue Response army boot on the other. Wears a Devon Works Track watch, which is a completely pointless display of wealth in this context.

Age: 30

Home Region: Hoenn, but accustomed to travel.

Partner Pokémon: Rayquaza (please let this happen)

Notable items/equipment: Carries webbing and a canteen he stole off a soldier’s corpse (hence the army boot). He has a wind-up radio and a metal bottle, as well as an IED Leatherman.
Weapons? A M1216 shotgun, a Walther WA2000 rifle, and a Glock 40. Being a weapons collector in his past life, he’s got a keen stash of ammo.

Bio: A swanky art and antiques dealer before the apocalypse and a real ‘high roller’. Michael had a great life, auctioning off rare goods (and Pokemon) for a living. His position as head of the Lilycove Dept. Store garnered him prestige and respect. However, his world came tumbling down as his properties and antiques were destroyed in the cataclysm. Armed only with his intelligence, charm, knowledge of guns and a very rare Pokemon he took from the auction vault before it was destroyed, Michael now has to deal with the harsh realities of the world.

Personality: While not an unpleasant guy, the loss of his extravagant lifestyle and assets has taken a toll. He’s rather bitter about having to scrounge for food when he used to be able to eat caviar by the handful. In particular, he resents most Pokemon – not only because they pose a serious threat to his life, but because he dislikes animals in general. Too dirty.

Misc: Has a Masters in Econometrics as well as a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Knows how to repair stuff, but doesn’t know how to interact with human beings (or Pokemon).

Yeano, like the char, but can't really allow a Rayquaza. That would be just a /little/ OP. Plus, if you get a legendary, suddenly everyone's asking for one. Plus there might actually be plot relevant reasons, but I can't say there are, because I'm being all vague and shit.

No issue, make it a Salamence.

Additionally, this is a better workaround. Rayquaza is huge and would be difficult to travel with.

...If, you know, we're being realistic.

We /are/ trying to be realistic... for a given value of the word, considering the setting.

Vorsprung, your char is officially accepted.

That's 6, but I'm lazy, so I'll leave sign-ups open for another /3/ days, unless someone asks me to extend it.

Name: Jason Donovan Nickname: Don

Appearance: Longish grey hair and long grey beard, weathered/wrinkled face. Dusty/old/torn blue jeans and a normal/thin (Formerly) black tshirt with odd markings on the middle of them. Very well built for his age.

Age: 70

Home Region: Hoenn

Partner Pokémon: Gyarados

Notable items/equipment: Cane, pair of reading glasses, food/supplies and that sort a thing, a 10mm pistol and a woodsman axe.

Bio: His past is long and ambiguous, often prone to telling lies about it to lead off any curious youngsters. Claims that all the kids today didn't work hard like they used too in his day. If you asked everyone who knew him within the past 3 years, the general consensus is that he was probably either a family man, who's /entire/ family all died or he worked for a secret organisation who's boss was claimed to be "tough, a risk taker and an all round manly guy." You'll never hear him talk about it though. His past is a well hid secret that most people due to his constant refusal to tell the truth, simply assume he must have been a raider boss in the early days of the Apocalypse, and that the 'secret organisation' was just a ruse for a raider gang, and thus, shouldn't be trusted.

Personality: Rather condescending to younger people, prefers to be around older people. Often sarcastic and snarky. Will sometimes behave erratically and dumb, and when he does, he feels deeply embarrassed. He appreciates people who try and stay fit during these trying times, rather than those who simply let their Pokémon do all the fighting.

Misc: Name likely false, he's has admitted he's prone to changing it. He's rather muscular for his age, but his elderly status is slowing him down.

Name: Travis Seddon

Appearance: decently short  and unkempt dark brown hair, azure blue eyes. had pale white skin, though travelling the wastelands has slightly darkened his face and arms. decently tall, about 5' 10" and of normal stature, if a little on the scrawny side. clothes are a muddy overcoat and worn trousers, decorated with various baubles and spiritual knick-knacks.

Age: 24

Home Region: Johto, though has been living in hoenn since he was 19

Partner Pokémon: Espeon

Notable items/equipment: a .44 6 chambered revolver with various 'spiritual' etchings on it, an old dagger with small beads hanging from it's hilt, a compass, a small satchel of marble-like baubles of various colours and a deck of tarot cards.

Bio: A believer in all things divine and mystical. Before the apocalypse, he made a living through fortune telling, priding himself on his ability to predict the future with perfect accuracy... about 20% of the time. he has a long history with his Espeon, 'Sunny', who was given to him as an eevee by his father when he was a young boy. nowadays he roams the land in search of the 'promised land' he believes to exist somewhere.

Personality: a fickle person, he can either be calm and levelheaded or scatterbrained and quick to temper, depending on his predictions. an adamant believer in luck and divine intervention, making him very superstitious. decently intelligent, if a bit naive and gullible at times. slightly brash, and often can't keep his mouth shit, which has a habit of leading him into bad situations.

Misc: Dislikes to use his real name, often goes under the alias 'The Hierophant' after the fifth card of the Major Arcana, representing knowledge. this is also the origin of his espeon's name, Sunny, which is named after the nineteenth card, 'The Sun' representing brilliance and joy.

Oh hoh, tarot symbolism. You know how to tickle me just right.

Anyway, you're char is accepted. And with it, I should probably work on getting the IC up.

Alright guys, a few things to cover here.

First, don't be afraid to use this thread for any and all out of character discussion, including questions you may have, or whatever. You may wanna use this discussion to coordinate posts with other players, if you like.

Second, I've updated the OP with a player list.

Third, I plan on running a pretty tight ship here. If you go, say, a week without posting, you may find your character unceremoniously left behind. I'm willing to be lenient, /IF/ you post in this thread that you're gonna be busy. Don't just PM me or whatever, other players need to know, too. That being said, don't feel the need to rush your posts or anything. I just don't want the entire RP slowing down because one person forgets to post.

Fourth, at the moment, we've got about three people who haven't posted at all. Basically, you three have a week starting now, or you're gonna have to find yourself slotted into the story at a later point.
